Higher Than Why, an Austin hip-hop group with rock-band elements will be playing HeadHunters in ATX on Thursday, April 9th. Be sure to check them out, they are part of a emerging and important movement sometimes called "conscious hip-hop." Backed with some live instruments and a band, they transform your typical idea of hip-hop and rock. Taken from their own myspace profile:

"Higher Than Why formed in the Austin, Texas conscious underground hip hop band scene circa 2004. The instrumentation is drums, keys, bass and quick witted, forward thinking rapping by Justice on the mic. The music is heavy, booming, eerie and spacey all while backed by percussively metered wordsmithing, presenting thoughtful insight on a compelling sound scape. They are hiphop, funk, rock and soul in equal parts. Higher Than Why took to the stages of Austin in late 2007. They quickly landed a weekly gig at Plush Bar's hiphop night opening for Table Manners Crew every Saturday. Along with shows at The Parish, Headhunters, Ruta Maya, Room 710, Red Eyed Fly, Red Seven and Creekside Lounge, they played over 30 shows in 2008. In late 2008, they decided to take a break from gigging to record their first studio effort. It will be released in Spring/Summer 2009. With recording elements of the album complete and a reworked set, they return to playing shows in March 2009. They intend to play all their favorite Austin venues as well as tour the US alongside their album release. "

They are a electropop/clash band known to have emo lyrics on top of electronic dance beats that resemble video games on acid. They are making their way to the Coachella 2009 festival and will be playing there, but are stopping in Texas first to rock out the live music capitol of the world!

 Fever Ray, the solo project of Karin from The Knife, has announced their dates for their 2009 tour. Unfortunately they arent going far from home, not surprisingly as they never did an extended tour before and don't seem to like the limelight much.

But it is still great to know they'll be touring and we really recommend catching them (her?) if you have the chance.
